Moray Eels have to be one of my favourite ocean creatures, they stare out at you from their crevices, opening and closing their mouth full of sharp teeth threatening to bite off your thumb or other unlucky appendage like this poor fellow

While they are potentially dangerous critters they do seem very intelligent and curious and make for excellent photographic subjects. We consider ourselves very lucky to have found the full time homes of not one but two Green Moray Eels in Sydney harbour. Both of them are located at the end of the Chowder Bay Wharf near Mosman.
Here is the video of our dive to Clifton Gardens and Chowder Bay Wharf where we discovered them as well as a number of leatherjackets and stingarees. Enjoy!

I’m glad I’ve found a fellow eel tragic out there. I’m a little bit obsessed with them too! I think my girlfriend thought I was mad when on a recent trip to Borneo I’d look away from the turtles and black-tipped sharks because I had spotted another little eel hiding away!
And isn’t Clifton Gardens a great spot? Suprisingly good, I think, for a nearly featureless, heavily silted bay. Was there on the weekend and spotted an anglerfish (frogfish I think) which was really wonderful to watch walking along the sand.
Sounds like you guys do some good diving around Sydney – we’ve been on the hunt for some more good buddies for shore dives – maybe we can hook up and hit the ocean sometime? Drop me an email back. 🙂

I understand your eel addiction mate. Clifton Gardens is a good spot but just abit too bland as a day dive i think unless you really like leather jackets. Chowder Bay wharf however is incredible especially for the local morays.
We would be happy to have you guys come for a dive sometime in the sydney area. We tend to dive once or twice a week so give us your contact details and we can sort something out.
